Celebrating 150 Years of History!
The Braddock Bay Tavern & Grill has been in existence in one form or another for more than 150 years. From its earliest days, the Tavern was an important icehouse for Monroe County. It served as a hotel and then boarding house for workers. The Tavern has been a mainstay in the everyday lives of residents and visitors for generations.
Ice, Ice, Ice
The Braddock Bay Tavern & Grill is the site of Monroe County's oldest icehouse. Only the stubborn footprint of the foundation remains of the unique icehouse, one usually seen only in history books. The icehouse held months of of ice collected by local icehouse workers, who would travel out into the bay and beyond to cut huge chunks of ice, then transport them by sled to the icehouse. The ice blocks were hoisted into the depths of the icehouse for use and sale during the spring, summer and fall months.
